A Path for Removing the Medians on Texas Avenue
We The People...
By placing a Charter Amendment on the November ballot, the citizens of Bryan can vote on removing the medians. In order to achieve this goal, we need 2,500 signatures collected one at a time on a paper petition. This can not be done online.
The petitions were turned in Tuesday June 30th, at 11am. It will take the City Secretary awhile to verify that we have enough. The minimum is 2,303. We turned in over 2,750.
The next step is for the council to be notified and for the council to order the election.
Many thanks to all those who circulated petitions and many thanks to all those citizens who took time to sign so that their voices could be heard.
We will update this website as further developments in the process occur.

Garden Acres/North Oakwood
Recently, we learned that TxDOT, with the city's concurrence, intends to install a traffic signal at the intersection of Texas Avenue and Garden Acres Boulevard/E. Brookside Drive. This light is planned on a segment of Texas Avenue that we had highlighted for median removal due to the medians negative impact on first responder access to businesses and neighborhood as well as traffic, both on Texas Avenue and nearby residential streets.
We were particularly surprised by the plan since we'd had numerous meetings TxDOT, to include a drive through along Texas Avenue with the district engineer, and there was no mention of installing a traffic light. When we stated our objections to the light, the district engineer had the gall to say that it was too late in the process to make a change since the project was going to bid in a few days.
We took to the streets anyway, passing out flyers to residents of the Garden Acres and North Oakwood sub-divisions. We also convinced several local businesses to put up "Remove the Medians" yard signs.
